Shrimp Round 2

July 20, 2018

Got my second round of shrimp livestock in on Wednesday morning. I ordered 400 45-day juveniles from Craig Upstrom at Texas Aquaculture. Chased around Springfield for about an hour to find FedEx location to pick them up. Standard stocking procedure involved floating the bag of shrimp in the pool for 15 minutes, followed by two additional 5 minute periods of adding pool water to the bag before releasing the shrimp. I took two shrimp to put in an aquarium in the house so I could monitor the growth. The pool water is running about 89oF but I keep my house at 75oF, so the growth will be slower in the aquarium. I think I’ll get a controllable aquarium heater so I’ll get a better idea of the shrimp growth. 400 shrimp in a 2500 gal pool makes it hard to observe them. Water conditions are within optimal growth conditions, so I’ll continue to feed them twice a day and hope that in the next weeks I begin to see them swimming away from the substrates.
